MANAGERIAL BEHAVIOUR AND ORGANIZATIONAL SURVIVAL OF OIL AND GAS FIRMS IN BONNY LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, RIVERS STATE

Abstract

This study examined the relationship between managerial behavior and organizational survival of oil and gas firms in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State. The study investigated the extent to which proactive behavior, responsive behavior, and reactive behavior influence organizational survival indicators such as profitability, market share, and return on investment. The study adopted a cross-sectional survey research design. Primary data were obtained through structured questionnaires administered to staff of selected oil and gas firms in Bonny. Descriptive statistics and Spearman Rank Order Correlation Coefficient were used for data analysis with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS Version 22.0). The findings revealed that proactive managerial behavior significantly improves profitability and market competitiveness. Responsive managerial behavior enhances organizational adaptability, employee commitment, and customer satisfaction, while reactive managerial behavior contributes to crisis management and operational continuity. The study concluded that managerial behavior significantly influences organizational survival within the oil and gas sector. The study recommended that managers should adopt proactive and adaptive leadership strategies capable of sustaining long-term organizational competitiveness and operational efficiency.
